About Us

In the Beginning:

Mountaineer Hunter/Jumper Association was founded in 1998 to promote riders in the tri-state area that show on the local level. Our mission is to instill a foundation for riders to help further their knowledge and involvement in the horse community and promote a healthy approach to competition.

We sanction over 25 hunter/jumper shows on our circuit. Shows meeting our qualifying standards in 2009 include the Sewickley Hunt show in Saxonburg, Mingo Creek shows in Finleyville, Horse On Course Equestrian Center shows in Saxonburg, Erie Hunt & Saddle & Horse Sports in Fairview, Creekside Stables in Blairsville, WPaPHA schooling show at North Park and WPaPHA rated show in Saxonburg.

In 2004, MHJA had their first Endless Summer Schooling Show, and it was a great success with over 120 entries! Last year’s show topped all expectations with over 140 entries! This event is an opportunity for members to receive double the points they would normally have acquired at a show. Work on this year’s expanded show is underway to make it even more exhibitor friendly, with a hospitality table on Saturday and Sunday mornings, a pizza party on Friday, Exhibitor’s party on Saturday, more prize money and even better gift bags.

Our year-end banquet in December honors all our members and recognizes their accomplishments throughout the year. Members are presented with trophies and ribbons for their placings in their selected divisions. Our members represent a broad spectrum of individuals ranging from professionals and adult amateurs to junior riders. Our recognized divisions range from Walk-Trot and Beginner Riders to Jumpers and Adult Amateur and Open Hunters.
